This picture I posted a few days ago... which represents our immediate front yard as of 4 days ago.
The snow is melting wicked fast. Every morning, I can see that bit of snow up there by the dead truck recede.
It's like one of those puzzles where you have to spot the minor differences between 2 almost identical images. HA HA
Well, it was warm for half last week.
Then it snowed a little over the weekend.
Today it is -15 degrees celcius!!!
Holy crap!
But the forecast shows it getting progressively warmer day after day until its back up to 8 or 9 degrees above.
Of course then the forecast is rain.
But I will take anything that will get rid of the snow!!!
I'm freezing my arse off here.
So I woke up this morning to the weather feed on my FireFox saying it was -20 degrees celcius. As I was drinking my coffee, it went down to -21 degrees.
WTF is going on here. Srsly. We had one wonderful warm day where everything melted tons. Then a cold snap... a big dump of snow... and another cold snap.
It is also perfectly clear out there. It was so cold that as I stood at my daughters school, waiting for the bell, you could see thousands and thousands of minuscule ice crystals floating in the air. As if the air itself was freezing. It was very pretty in the sun shine however.
Every single leafless tree I saw on the way down to the grocery store afterward looked as though it was frosted completely from head to toe... if trees had toes. Like it was blasted with a can of whip cream.... or that fake snow you spray on fake christmas trees.
Now for some cats to attemp to brighten my day.
2 days ago it was really warm, lots of snow was melting and it was a little slushy out.
Yesterday morning it was really cold and everything froze.
Last night it dumped another 4 friggen inches!
Why god why?????
Excuse me, while I go cry in bed until spring arrives.
Barbecuing in the dead of a Canadian Winter.
But as I went out one evening to start the barbecue I realized that it's a treacherous sport. These photos were taken from our front doorway, so you can see how close the barbecue is. The first large snowfall we had to dig out the barbecue and dust it off in order to find it... and the propane tank. Then the snow is constantly trampled, and then it warms up and freezes and warms up and freeze, so you have a nice thick crust of mushy ice or slick hardened snow in the area right before the barbecue.
So you have to put down your food and utensils on the side, if it's cleaned off, and get your footing before lighting it. And you need to make sure you have footing before attempting to open the barbecue to check on your food. Last thing you need is to loose footing, because I know I flail and then grab for the nearest object to steady myself. And i don't feel like grilling my hands. ;)
Oh, then on the windy days you have to try and light it with matches because your hubby's cousin lost the barbecue flicker when he borrowed it to light up a joint... er... smoke outside one night.
I am still fighting this headache this morning, however it feels almost gone now. I even dipped into my T3 stash yesterday to help fight it. I try to keep most of any T3 prescription I get in case of migraines. This bottle is left over from a particularily nasty ear infection I got last march. I use them sparingly, reserving them for the worst of the worst headaches. I took only one yesterday just to help.
Lets see, what else sucks...
My MSN is down today...
Lee decided to take the car this morning, after I said several times I was going to go grocery shopping after dropping off my oldest... So we have no milk.
The office I contract for takes forever to get back to me, and with MSN down, should take longer. They sent me a long task list to look over, most were ok, but a couple contradict the original spec of the project. Only up side to that is that it will take me a long time to finish, therefore more paid hours.
Oh! And then my virus checker on the weekend got a virus. Lee told me to boot into safe mode and uninstall it and reinstall... I uninstalled, then went to delete the folder for it, with a couple remaining files... and my computer rebooted. Not a good thing. So I got it installed again, booted into safe mode, did a scan. Came back later and my machine had booted into normal mode... pretty sure that it wasn't suppose to be. So I ran another scan. It found one virus, removed it, and all seems ok now.
Why does it seem like I get more viruses than a porn star and I dont even visit questionable pages??
On the up side, business is going good now that christmas break is over, even with the crappy-ass weather. It started to melt last thursday, which means it froze on friday and the sidewalks are crap. But it continued to thaw a little and today the sidewalks are only partially crappy. Just need a good day of thawing to clear them...
Pleh...
So I am just going to drink as much coffee as I can to kill the headache and until I look like this:
I ask him why he made it snow so god dammed much over the weekend.
That barbecue was cleaned off yesterday morning. This is what it looked like this morning when I went to take my oldest to school.
My youngest wont walk in snow that is more than 2 or 3 inches deep. She
starts to whine... a lot! So I opted to drag her on the sled which was
harder than it sounded.
The roads were all plowed... onto the sidewalks, and no one had been on the sidewalks yet by the time we left for the normal 5 minute walk to school.
So we ended up plowing our own path, with our boots. I had to abandon the small wooden sled half way there (buried it in a snowbank to hide it) because it was too small to properly plow a path. It kept tipping. I carried my youngest on my shoulders for half the walk.
When there was a beaten down path, I let my youngest walk on it, but since it was only wide enough for one, I had to walk in the deep, fresh stuff. The snow was up past my knees on the paths and areas that never saw plows, and halfway up my shins on the sidewalk here.
You can see my oldest in the above picture attempting to create her own path.
It took an hour round trip to get to a school I can see from my bedroom window.
I got a whole hour to rest when we got back before we had to go back out. I had to find new pants, and snow pants. We took the larger, longer, plastic sled, so I could drag my youngest again. It worked much better at carving through the snow.
I dragged them BOTH home on that sled, but it was all flat or slightly downhill. Someone had used a snowblower to clear about 60% of the sidewalks between our house and the school. On the downhill portion of the sidewalk I hopped on the sled and we rode the hill down. :) that was fun.
I hurt.
That was a total of 2 hours of walking/dragging/carrying
Not sure if MJ has as much snow as we do...
I would have drove, as it would have been faster, but the landlords haven't plowed and we probably wouldn't get the car far down our driveway. And I wasn't walking on the road that had been plowed, because there is just enough for 2 cars to pass, on the road past our place, and it's very busy at 830 in the morning. We wouldn't have made it 10 feet before being hit by one...
I sure hope more snowblowers come out before tomorrow. I'm not doing that again.
Christmas passed with a quiet roar. Not that I mind. I'm still feeling a little sick. Although my cough is much better. We didn't bother getting each other gifts this year. Although we did get a new camera with our AirMiles, and Lee ended up bringing home on the 23rd the Guitar Hero: World Tour. Comes with the drums, guitar, a mic and the game for the Wii. I'm actually quite surprised how much fun this game is. Silly silly fun.
I am about an above average player on the guitar on the medium setting. I can't even imagine anyone being able to play the Hard or Expert settings. Yikes!
We went sledding yesterday on the side hill which has a good slope to it.
We have a ton of snow. And it's been -20ish degrees Celsius for a week and a half. It's suppose to warm up quite a bit tho this week. To about -2 degrees on the weekend.
If you want to see something adorable, here is my oldest at her Christmas pagent the week before Christmas. She has the brown shirt on, with no hat... for whatever reason she didn't want to wear it.
Hope everyone had a good holiday! I'm enjoying sleeping in, and playing guitar hero. lol
