What are your fitness goals? What is helping or preventing you from accomplishing them?

Lose... X pounds. (I'm not letting that one out - exactly how much I could stand to lose)
I wasn't always concerned with how fit I was, as from an athlete's perspective. I am not interested in running marathons or anything like that. I am interested in maybe toning my arms and legs a little, improve my arm strength.
Lazyness gets in the way of my goals, as well as an enjoyment of cooking tasty food.
Although, I mentioned recently I lost 10lbs from worrying so much about finances (and a few other things), that I am finding it easier to control cravings because I really really really don't want to put that little bit of weight back on!! If I can lose another 10 in the next month or so... I will be really really really really really really happy!
I invented a new term this week:
Pro-Fresh-ional!
It is a combination of being professional, and fresh!
It came about after a client complained that her web site didn't look professional enough, after we had almost finished it, and she had already seen and approved mockups.
She gave us 2 other sites, saying that she liked those... but not the color scheme... just how they look.
She actually said that she wanted her site to be 'Fresh'.
I thought that was what we did.
So after I grumbled for 2 days, Lee redesigned it and we have been working away at it today. I've been adding some cool slide and fade effects so it looks 'Fresh'.
As Lee and I were joking around I came up with that term!
I will also accept: Fresh-Tastic as an acceptable term of description.
lol
I will have to apologize now, in the off chance I offend someone, because this topic really pissed me off.
It's about home ownership.
There are stories every week on the CBC news website about home sales going up, housing starts going down, pricing rising, lowering, doing backflips, what have you. And there is a comment section, and silly me, I peruse the comment section, and make some comments from time to time.
There are sooooo many commenters who insult people who rent. They try to make themselves out to be the shining example of human intelligence because THEY happen to own a house. 95% of them bought before the housing prices got so high in Canada, so they are sitting very pretty.
What they do not understand is that NOW, right NOW, not 5 years ago when prices were more normal, but NOW it is very very hard to buy unless you are very secure in your finances.
We just started our business last November (official open date anyway). And my income hasn't been too great the past 6 months. The office I hate working for hasn't really given me anything in 2 months. The other place I work for had to ask me to stop what I was doing in JANUARY because they had to scale back quite a bit. They were hit hard by the economy. They are still afloat, and are starting to see a rise in sales, but they can't afford to have me back yet.
But still, the home owners go on and on and on, insulting people who rent, bragging about all their equity. None of them know what it is like to actually wonder if you will have a home next month. I bet none have actually considered selling their wedding ring so they could reduce a little of their debt they incurred trying to make their small business a go. I bet none of them had to deny their child a peanut butter sandwich because they had no bread, and didn't want to go out to the store just yet.
Probably many here own, and my beef is not with you... it's only the self-righteous, self-absorbed, superior-complex nut bags that comment on the CBC boards. The ones who make themselves out to be better than me because I rent.I couldn't buy now even if I wanted. A bank would look at our finances and probably laugh us out of the building.
If you were lucky to buy before housing prices got so damn crazy, then you were lucky!
It just that reading those boards stress me out more than I already am. Since the start of last week, I lost 8 lbs. Last night, for whatever reason, was the first good night sleep I had in over a week. But even if I get work the next few months from the office I hate, it's going to be a long haul to pay down our debt and be on our feet in a good position. We made a few dumb decisions when Lee and I were younger, not married, or no kids... and now I wish I could go back and change those decisions.
Just a vent, sorry bout that. :D
I think I am actually looking forward to when school is back in. Summer is great for relaxing and sleeping in, but I am starting to find that I need some sort of daily routine to keep my mind from.... taking off on me and not telling me where it is going!!!
Also I get daily showers when I have a routine too!! And I am not in my pyjamas half the day.
The weather has cooled off and it rained finally. We had temperatures in the high 30s (Celsius) for so long there, and in British Columbia, that means forest fires. Fortunately our area is unique, probably because of the large lake, so we don't get them close very often. But the areas south and west of us tend to get them often. They are much dryer areas. We wind up with all the smoke coming up the valleys and settling on us however. Some days it's rather stinky outside.
But the weather has helped the 2 largest fires in the province, which have been threatening homes and such, but not as bad as a few years ago, when a fire leveled all sorts of new development in a town south of us. Many people lost their very large, uninsured houses...
Anyhoo,
Kids are enjoying their summer but I think they are looking forward to getting out more too.
One morning, we got up, made coffee, and saw this:
Two horsies! Charlie is the dark brown one on the right. The light blond one on the left is called Roy, short for 'Royal'.
They're both very nice and the girls love to take apples from the few apple trees we have in the yard to them. Now some days I find 2 horsies staring at me through the window.
What else...
The business is going great! The guys are very busy. Lee is able to bring home some money every month. However the office that I still work for, that I hate working for, (I think i mentioned them a few times in my rants), has basically ignored me all summer, so I haven't had much work. I keep pestering, and It's always an excuse. They're waiting on some other project blah blah blah, they will have more work later... blah blah blah.
So I haven't brought much money home the past 2 months, and I'm looking for ways to cut spending. Including unplugging all counter top appliances in the kitchen when I'm not using them. Shutting power bars down at night for all computers. Trying to stick to cereal and apples for breakfast and lunch so I dont spend much on food...
Supposedly they have work for me in PHP, which is what I have been doing for the web page work our business gets, so at least it's something I know. And they're suppose to get to me before the end of August... wheee...
So, we've started looking at things we can sell. I put an ad in the paper to sell my wedding dress. It's been in the closet for 7 years. I put out ads before, but no one has answered. I'm sure there is someone out there who can't afford a big wedding, but would like a nice dress. I'd be willing to let it go for a decent price.
It's a nice dress, cost me over 900$.
I know many people have them packed away and preserved in case their kids might want it someday. But how do I know they will like the style?? I'd rather sell it to someone who really wants a dress, but can't afford to pay some of the prices out there.
I also half considered selling some jewelery. But I do not have much that is very nice, except for my grandmothers pearls (wearing in that photo), and my mom's grandmothers gold ring. I just can't sell those 2 things. They mean too much, even if I do not wear jewelery.
So that's where we're at...
From the design to the features, what should the perfect kid-friendly laptop include? What would you leave out?
Sponsored by WePC.You dream it. ASUS builds it. Intel Inside®
I've actually wondered about this a few times.
A few times I have thought that a special children's keyboard would be ideal. Something you could hook up when you run certain games, but I suppose a whole laptop would work just as well.
Since our children are 5 and 3 a colorful keyboard/laptop would be good. Depending on the games, the keys should be color coded. For instance there could be a music program, and say all the keys on the first row are one color, 2nd row another, etc. And they would act like different instruments (drums on bottom row, space bar the bass drum).
Some keyboards have special function keys that you can program, so there would be a one for the main menu, maybe shaped like a small house (for home). Something intuitive so they can switch games.
And of course on the main menu would be a place for parents to click or press and enter a password to get into the guts, for updates or other things. Like setting internet settings, and restrictions. In case your child is older and you want to let them on the internet to an extent.
On bootup it should have a couple options, the kids accounts, and the parent one, which again is password protected
They have those mock laptop computer games out there like LeapFrog etc, but those are limited to their own game cartridges, and expensive. With an actual laptop with a special kids casing, its easier to scale it, add to it, upgrade it, and add your own programs into it. And any company or individual could build a game or learning program that will work with the keyboard layout and features.
I think my 5 year old would be on this thing all the time if we had one.
I've been trying to catch up, and post again, but my brain is in sleep mode this summer I think. The kids are out of school, and I haven't really had to get up for anything aside from my oldest's swimming lessons. They were the last 2 weeks, every morning at 10am. Which isn't bad. She passed them and they recommended she move on to the next level. I am going to look into lesson times during the school year, and try to keep up with the lessons.
I keep getting ideas for posts, but then when it comes down to sitting down to do them, I just can't seem to summon the energy to type.
One of the things I had thought of was those ridiculously large 'Paris Hilton', butt-ugly sunglasses. You know the ones that cover their ENTIRE cheek. I'm sorry if anyone here owns them, but ....dang! Are they UUUUUUgly. I start to snort and giggle when I see people wear them... I can't help it... you look ridiculous! Worse than crocs!
Another thing I found recently was on Digg. It was an article on a donut shop in California called Psycho Donuts. I guess it has a whole theme going, and the California Mental Health association has been all over them to shut down or change the name, afraid its going to damage people with mental health issues. I can see their point... sorta. But I doubt that the owners, employees and patrons are looking down on real mental health issues....
You have to check out their donuts tho... i get so hungry browsing the site.
I need more coffee
