Canada Day. M'Eh?
We didn't do anything special. But we did go down to see the fireworks in town. This is a big deal. Its the first time in like 7 years they have held it here because it scares the birds or some stupid crap.
So we find a decent spot that is not on the water because it's paaaaaaacked with locals and tourists. The spot is up on the hill a little in the parkinglot of a government building. It gets more crowded as time goes by. The fireworks, according to the paper start at 10:15. So we sit there from 9:50 on waiting. I let the kiddies out of the seatbelts so they don't get too mad. By 10:45 were getting impatient. The girls are getting hot because it's very warm up here. Shortly after that i hear a wierd ticking, only to realize it's the car, and the battery is in the process of dying. So we shut the car off completely. We just had radio on low and the fans, but forgot about the cell charger. Even though its not hooked up to a cel, its still drawing power. So we get out to walk around cause its way to hot in the car, and get a seat on a good patch of grass... and FINALLY the fireworks start at like 11pm.
Meh. They were ok.
This other town, the one I work in is also a huge touristy town, on a very large lake. It has awesome fireworks every single year. It also has 3000 people normally as its population. The town I live in has like 25k. I bet the small town had more people watching its fireworks. Whoever put them on in our town must have been drinking lots today.
There would be a series of fireworks, then a pause, then more, then a pause... is it over? oops! More! Pause... bleh.
The finale, which is usually hundreds all in rapid succession at this other town, is a dozen or more, haphazzardly blown off... whooo.
Meh.
The kids of course loved it. Any fireworks are good fireworks to them. And we did get a jump from a guy in a truck there with his family. So we got home before the rain started. Wheee.
:)
